Synopsis

When Nick Allen decides to turn his fifth-grade teacher’s love of the dictionary around on her, he cleverly invents a new word and begins a chain of events that quickly moves beyond his control.

Comments

This is a fantastic book-I loved it. It is a true “must read”, even by parents. Very nice story, great character, strong family support. This book is a good one for kids reading above grade-level, though there is some content about school authority that they may not understand.

Social/Family

A brief mention of putting kids onto 1 of 3 lists, “all the really bad kids, all the really smart kids, and all the really good kids. (Listed here only because it is “cliquey”).
Some play on a teacher’s name; nothing overtly rude-”Dangerous Grangerous”.
A feeling of rebellion seems to exist at the school, a sense that no one is “respecting the rules anymore”.

Religion/Spiritual

“She loved the dictionary-almost worshipped it.” A dictionary sits on a little table at the front of the room, “sort of like the alter at the front of a church.”
